Membership

Eligibility for DACOR Membership

 

Regular (Voting) Members: Retired and former officers of the United States government who have served overseas or domestically in capacities principally related to foreign affairs, such as officers of the Foreign Service, civil service, intelligence community, armed forces, attachés, and others who have served in or directly supported US missions, including military missions and combined commands.

Associate Members: Active duty officers, widows and widowers of officers, former spouses; academics involved in advanced foreign studies; established foreign affairs journalists; career staff of the Senate and House Foreign Relations/Affairs Committees; staff members of international non-governmental organizations; and former Peace Corp Volunteers who have followed in foreign affairs pursuits since their volunteer service.

Spouses of regular and associate members automatically become associate members at no additional cost unless, if qualified, they prefer to join and pay dues as regular members. Associate members enjoy all of the privileges of regular membership save that of voting for members of the Board of Governors.

Life Members: Those eligible to be regular members or their surviving or former spouses may choose to obtain a life membership at a one-time cost. Those interested should contact the executive director.

As an exception, the DACOR Board of Governors may admit as regular or associate members those nominees who have been proposed by a regular (voting) member.
