Membership

DACOR's membership is made up of foreign affairs professionals. Its members include officers and staff of the U.S. Foreign Service, other U.S. government personnel with overseas duty or foreign affairs responsibility, and non-government foreign affairs professionals including, but not limited to, academics, consultants, policy analysts, journalists, international development specialists, non-profit/NGO professionals, and persons who have worked overseas in international business.

In recognition of the role the family plays in overseas assignments, spouses and partners are included in DACOR membership (numbers as of January 2018):

• Active duty, former and retired members of the foreign affairs agencies of the U.S. Government (State, USAID, FCS, FAS, USAGM, APHIS, and the former USIA);
• Active duty, former and retired members of other agencies of the U.S. Government who served overseas or domestically in capacities principally related to foreign affairs;
• Other foreign affairs professionals (including but not limited to, academics, consultants, policy analysts, journalists, international development specialists, non-profit/NGO professionals, and persons who have worked overseas in international business);
• Others whose special circumstances warrant membership;
• And, at their own discretion, the spouses or partners of these individuals.

• Spouses and partners and former spouses and partners of deceased DACOR members paying at a special dues rate;
• And, children and grandchildren of deceased DACOR members paying at the regular rate.

1. Spouses/partners of members are welcomed as members with reduced rights at no additional cost. A spouse/partner of a regular member may choose to pay a membership fee of $58 (Resident*) or $28 (Non-Resident) to gain full Regular membership rights, including voting and serving on the Board or as an Officer.
2. Newly commissioned FSOs receive complimentary membership when they join until the end of the calendar year in which they were appointed.

*Residents are those who live within 50 miles of DACOR Bacon House as the crow flies.
